A New Service Dog
Because of the sudden and unexpected death of Tillie, my Australian Shepherd Service Dog, I am now in need of a new service dog.
There are non-profit organizations that train and provide service dogs for free to qualifying Veterans. However, that process and wait time can take as long as 36 months.
Instead of having to go that long without a service dog, I am trying to take care of everything myself to expedite the process. Unfortunately, this can be very expensive. Most nonprofit providers seek corporate sponsors to pay for the service dogs, their training, and other associated expenses. These expenses can range from $15,000 upwards.
Fortunately, I have a niece in Long, Beach, California who is a Professional Certified Dog Trainer and Animal Welfare Specialist with the Canine Learning Academy and she has agreed to provide the training for free. This will reduce my expenses significantly and allow me to have a new Service Dog in less than 6 months.
I am asking for donations to help with the remaining associated costs (i.e., breeder fees, transporting/flying the dog to and from California, veterinarian costs (shots, neutering, etc..)). Rather than setting up a typical CrowdFunding site that charges fees and services, I am using this sight and simply asking folks to donate through Venmo or Zelle so that all funds donated will go toward the costs of the service dog.
My fundraising goal is $8,000.
So far we have raised: $4,142.
I will provide weekly updates on my Twitter account showing the fundraising status and (hopefully) some puppy pictures I receive from the breeder and trainer. Thank you all for your prayers and financial support in this process of getting a new service dog. It means more to me than you can imagine.
Blessings,
John
